Winter Warmer

With snow upon the mountain tops, we would all like to cosy up and stay under the blankets. However,  did you know that exercise is a great way to warm up your body AND boost your immune system?

Stay warm and healthy this winter through exercise!

Studies have proved that 30 to 60 minutes of moderate exercise such as brisk walking, jogging or swimming can improve blood circulation, boost the movement of immune cells and lower inflammation. Even just a quick burst of exercise can have a similar effect and is particularly helpful for obese or diseased persons who are unable to manage lengthy exercise sessions.

With consistent exercise the immune cells have more time to look for and recognise viruses and bacteria, therefore it is beneficial to get into a routine and exercise regularly. Every little bit of exercise is a step up from where you currently are, so start today and slowly build up an exercise routine fit for your capabilities.

Here are some examples of exercises that you can do to quickly help increase blood flow and warm yourself up on these cold winter mornings:

  • Air boxing
  • Marching on the spot with high knees
  • Sit-to-stand squats
  • Side bends

If something is hindering you from starting to exercise, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with your physiotherapist.
